Monday Morning Cornerback: Week 10November 9, 2009
Quick jukes and cuts from the weekend
Ryan Williams of VA Tech is good. Thing of the three headed monster they are gonna have next year in the backfield when Darren Evans returns.
A 3-5 LA Tech hangs with Boise St? Yep. Boise St. is exactly where they are supposed to be in the BCS rankings.
Florida just aint got that same giddy up in like last year. Matter of fact no team in college football does. This season sucks to be perfectly honest.
Texas beat UCF. Duh.
Alabama got some good ol’ home cooking if you ask me. I still like them for the national championship though. Best thing I liked during the game was Patrick Peterson’s wizardry at corner. This guy plays with tremendous energy.

Never was sold on Ricky Stanzi, but one thing for sure he is the team’s MVP and that was proven when his team lost when he went out with an injury. His backup went 9 for 27 no touchdowns and one pick.
Iowa plays with a back up QB and loses. Cincy plays with a back up QB 3.5 games and keeps it moving. 9-0 baby.
Amazing but TCU still isn’t getting the love they deserve. That 4-2-5 defense is the truth!
As quirky and annoying as voters can get, why would Boise St. hire a PR firm to help them get into the BCS?
Way to shoot yourself in the foot Oregon. Way to take Rich Rodriguez’s job John Harbaugh.
GA Tech BCS? Very close to it.
Terrelle Pryor wasn’t great but he won. Somehow someway someone will find something negative to say about his performance when winning is all that matters.
I been saying all this season that the powers that be the reign supreme in college football are not becoming fading dynasties. It’s more less that the players recruited recently aren’t so hot and alot of kids have left school early. This is especially true for USC, so they may not look like USC but get your shots in now because they will be back soon.
Best game all week. Houston vs. Tulsa. If they were in the SEC this would have ESPN Classic written all over it.
You don’t wanna see the Canes next year.
Mike Stoops’ Arizona Wildcats are ranked and control their own destiny in the Pac-10. Bob Stoops’ OU Sooners are out of the top 25 for the second time this year.
Do I have to talk about Oklahoma State beating Iowa State?
My prayers go out to Jahvid Best. I honestly don’t know why he was allowed to play in this game, because he suffered a mild concussion last week. With all the recent health risks being associated with football, I don’t know why he was even playing. A concussion is a concussion be it mild or severe.
Wisconsin beat Indiana in a thrilling rendition of Boring Ten football.
If you read the November issue we predicted the Notre Dame late season demise. It has begun.
Big Red 2009 edition went to Nebraska. Both defenses are solid, the offenses……
We gotta show love to BYU’s QB Max Hall, 20 for 22 and 4 touchdowns with no picks. Great game.
No matter what happens, Bobby Bowden has had a great career. On a side note if CJ Spiller isn’t in NYC for the Heisman Ceremony I’ll be pissed and I’m certain no one will care.
NFL
Oh, Redskins….where do we start. The Skins and the Panthers have to be the most disappointing teams given their level of talent and Pro Bowlers on both sides of the ball. How bout Falcons coach Mike Smith getting into the mix on the sidelines. Now that’s a coach you should want to play for.
I’m not a rocket scientist but I’ve learned that no Tommie Harris + No Brian Urlacher + and gimpy Charles Tillman = no bueno for the Bears. The offense isn’t too shabby but what makes the Bears special and for whatever reason, injuries, schemes, etc. The Monsters of the Midway just haven’t been there all season. Good Kurt Warner came out of hiding this week and it’s unsure how long he’ll be in the building.
Chad OchoCinco has found the happy place to play very well without being smug or brash and be equally entertaining on the field as he is on the sidelines and off the field. Him attempting to bribe the referee was possibly one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in my life. I hope Mr. Goodell doesn’t fine him for this.
No one wants to admit it but the Ravens QB, Joe Flacco, has hit a sophomore slump.
The Texans are a season away from being really good. Right now they are too inexperienced which is evident given their 13 penalties for 103 yards lost, several of which coming at crucial points in the game.
Dallas Clark vs. Brian Cushing. Victory goes to Dallas Clark with his 14 catches for 119 yards on the rookie.
The Los Angeles Jaguars held off a late comeback attempt from the Chiefs to secure the win. Mike Sims-Walker and Randy Moss had the exact same days statistically with 6 catches for 147 yards and a TD. But only Moss is getting the love.
Patriots are playoff bound and are one of the top 4 teams in the AFC but I just don’t see that same dominance. Also, this is the second time this year I’ve seen a young corner out jump Randy Moss and pick off a pass. I’d still take Moss against any corner in the league any day, but what used to be a guarantee looks more like 75/25.
Aaron Rodgers has the Brett Favre hangover because he was 17 for 35 for 266 yards 2tds but 3ints which definitely kept the Bucs in the game.
Before we start riding Josh Freeman’s nuts, he was 14 for 31 which isn’t stellar by any means although he tossed 3 tds. I still think Josh Johnson got pulled premature. But good job to Coach Morris and his team for their first win of the year.
DeAngelo Williams kept the Panthers in the game against the Saints and took them out of the game against the Saints with his fumble at the end of the game.
Saints need to shore up that run defense before the playoffs come because Adrian Peterson and Vikings will be ready.
Do I really have to talk about Seattle beating Detroit 32-20?
Who lost the game for the Giants? Offensive play calling on the last offensive drive in the red zone or their defense allowing Phillip Rivers to go 80 yards in under two minutes to win the game? It’s a toss up if you ask me.
Vince Young: 2 starts and 2 wins. Albeit against a .500 Jaguar team and below .500 49er squad, winning is the object of the game and that is exactly what he is doing. Chris Johnson leads the league in rushing on the second worst team in the league. Something just doesn’t add up.
Come next year, Vernon Davis will have fully come into his own. 10 catches for 102 yards this weekend.
I’m still trying to figure out how Philly lost a game in which they controlled most of the way. The Cowboys defense played very well holding the Eagles to only 16 points when they came in averaging 29 which caused Donovan McNabb to miss a lot of receivers.
That’s All I Got,
