Pre-Madonna or Pretty ImportantDecember 16, 2009

johnson_05 We’ve visited this topic before, but in the midst of Chad Johnson’s fines, Randy Moss’ lack of effort, and Thrill Hill’s re-emergence on “The U” documentary, we must talk about Wideouts.

I mean who knows the difference between a WR and Flanker? The Slot and the Wide Out ? These guys who are between 5’6″ and 6’5″ and all they do is pretty boy shit. I mean they are not in the trenches. Randy Moss has not went over the middle since I was in middle school yet and still he has the notoriety of Paris Hilton. WR’s have sex tapes and they garner all the attention for nothing. I must admit with the affluence of the spread offense, I would presume that the WR is as popular as the jheri curl in the 1980′s. But I refuse to feed into the hype, I mean look at the jobs of wide outs; crack back blocks and half ass run blocking versus guys who are more often than not on an island.

If a Linebacker gets blown up on any given play he is wrote off as a pussy where as a wide out can catch one pass per game and be a star. Think of prominent wide outs in the NFL, Randy Moss and T.O. they are good as they come and they may have a game with only 2 catches. Let a Linebacker such as Tyrell Suggs or Shawne Merriman have two tackles they are “slipping” and need to step it up . WR’s are the fly boys on the fringes of society that get the credit for all the work with minimal work. Let me subtract the hard worker types such as Hines Ward or Wes Welker who lay it on the line every week and earn their notoriety as the gentleman they are. I’m talking about the Calvin Johnson’s and the Randy Moss’ of the world who do nothing and receieve stellar paychecks for their existences as front men.

I would love to see these guy as a DT where the real “work” is or even a more comparable position as Tight End. All the glitz and glamor would stop immediately. So to conclude, I say STFU and “do work son” and hopefully fans will realize that it takes more than one diving catch to win a Heisman and more than surreal TD antics to be a star. Willis McGahee and may the lord bless his soul Sean Taylor keep up the good work. Any USC incumbent wide out whose worth is ill receieved get your weight up and put down the arrogant undeserved swag and hit the weights. Do some run blocking and get a life. I’ll be patiently waiting for a wideout besides Hines Ward to do something that is more than glamorized fluff. Have a nice day.

The Man,

Young Lina

Now it’s my turn Young Lina. Do people pay good money to see a 10-3 defensive thriller? Yes a complete wideout is more appreciated by the football society, but they are not paid to block. They are paid to catch. Take rookie, Hakeem Nicks of the Giants. Last Sunday, he dropped two straight passes that a professional wideout should catch. He plays for the Giants of all teams and the NY media aint no bitch. Luckily for him, his next catch which was the toughest of the three was caught effortlessly and he made two people miss and he took it to the house.

Name me a wide receiver that made it to the hall of fame because he was a great blocker? Randy Moss is a freaking Ferrari that flies down the field and does nothing more than catch touchdowns, get fans out of their seats, and make fantasy owners proud. Take DeSean Jackson for instance, the kid is explosive, and weighs only 170 lbs. I don’t think Andy Reid wants DeSean Jackson doing any crack back blocking of any kind. He wants DeSean catching touchdowns and running past people on punt returns.

Why don’t you see how it feels to be T.O. lately. Run full speed down the field on virtually every passing play to only turn in frustration and watch the ball be thrown to the other team. It weighs on your heart man! Given today’s two back system you see less of the workhorse 25-30 carry games for running backs, but 15-20 carry backs are still alive and well. Receivers don’t touch the ball that much ever. Freshman running back, Dion Lewis of Pittsburgh, rushed the ball 42 times two weeks ago. A wideout averages 3 catches a game. A Brandon Marshall 21 catch performance will not be broken for a long time, hence maybe 10 years which was the exact time it took someone to break Terrell Owens record of 20 catches which dated back to December 17, 2000.

The main job of a wide out is to catch the ball. Santonio Holmes great Super Bowl catch wouldn’t have meant nothing had he dropped it, I don’t care how many great blocks he had in the game. When crack back blocks or pancakes become a stat for wideouts then I’ll care, for now it’s catches, yards, and touchdowns. In comparison to quarterbacks and running backs, wideouts touch the ball the least so in my mind they can celebrate and be as pre-madonna esque as they wanna be.

That’s All I got,

Ricky Writer
