Yo, what up! How is everyone doing today? Good I hope. Here are my quick cuts and jukes from the second week of March….
College
Honesty is always the best policy!
Oregon QB, Jeremiah Masoli, learned this lesson over the weekend after being suspended for the entire season last week for his part in a second degree burglary from a campus fraternity. Coach Chip Kelly noted that it wasn’t the offense that got Masoli the one year ban, but it was his repeated lying that he was not involved with the burglary initially.
Same situation happened with Dez Bryant and the NCAA. He wasn’t truthful, he got a one year suspension. So, the lesson kids is to always tell the truth.
Oregon RB, LaMichael James, had a far more dangerous charge of domestic violence and harassment but the domestic violence charge was dropped, but he received a one game suspension.
Chip Kelly’s a great coach, but he has to get his boys together. A team is a direct reflection of their coach, and right now they are looking undisciplined and it always shows on the field at some point in time.
I sure would have liked to be in the room when Mike Leach, Adam James and Craig James all met up on Saturday in a Lubbock courtroom this past Saturday.
Bobby Reid = “I’m 40! I’m a Man”. It’s too bad it doesn’t equal a Vince Young-esque quarterback hailing from Houston and going to a Big 12 school to lead his team to a championship and go onto be a first round NFL draft pick. Although Reid will not get drafted in the first round it doesn’t mean he will not get a shot.
Reid will be showcasing his skills at the LSU pro day later on this morning. For obvious reasons you know why he’s not at OSU. But he chose LSU, because OSU’s former coach was Les Miles, the person that recruited Reid. Let’s hope Reid does well and that if he doesn’t his mother won’t come out the the field and embarrass him again.
NFL
Everybody and they mama was on the move this past week in the league.
The biggest move was Ladanian Tomlinson to the Jets. He visited the Vikings and the Jets last week and chose the Jets. He chose the team that he felt could win a championship. I know the Jets have a good defense, but they are not there yet. Jets QB, Mark Sanchez had an okay rookie year, but the Vikings are far closer to a championship within the next two years than the Jets. Remember earlier last year when Jim Brown said Adrian Peterson was the best running back in the league and Tomlinson took exception to that. Apart of me feels like Tomlinson didn’t want to be in Minnesota for that exact reality, and Tomlinson feels that he’s got a better chance at beating out Shonn Greene for a starting job than A.D.
Word came out of Georgia that Ben Roethlisberger admitted to having sexual contact with his accuser, but having sex. He also admitted that she fell and hit her head. I tried to stay away from commenting on this situation because I didn’t have all the facts and I didn’t want a Duke Lacrosse outcome. But Big Ben looks like he’s in a world of trouble. Even if he gets passed the law Roger Goodell is going to give him at least 4 games for his latest offense.
The Eagles picked up their 1.5 million dollar option on Michael Vick. 1.5 mil for a backup, check that, 3rd string wildcat QB? The Eagles are up to something trust me. Vick, McNabb, or Kolb will be traded by the draft, just watch.
NFL legend Merlin Olsen passed away so my thoughts and prayers go out to him.
Brady Quinn is the happiest man in Denver right now. I’m not sure what is worse, dealing with Eric Mangini or playing or dealing with Browns front office, they both suck! Kyle Orton is the starter for the Broncos, but Kyle Orton is Kyle Orton ladies and gentlemen. Broncos head coach, Josh McDaniels did wonders with Tom Brady and Matt Cassel, I like his chances with Quinn as well.
The Skins signed Larry Johnson over the weekend. LJ and Clinton Portis in the backfield together? Hmm…It’s not A.D. and Chris Johnson but it’s still a pretty good duo back there.
So the Browns said screw Brady Quinn, who was always looking over his shoulder to be yanked out of the game in favor of Derek Anderson, and they signed Jake Delhomme for $7million? I told you the Browns front office sucks. Delhomme is banking, $7million this year from the Browns and the Panthers still owe him $12 million from his signing bonus, that’s $19 million and 19 is about where he ranks among the NFL QB’s on a good day.
