2010 NFL Hall of Fame ClassAugust 6, 2010
Cooperstown is tainted and the Basketball Hall of Fame is a joke. The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH is clearly the best Hall of Fame of all sports. Their 2010 induction ceremony is taking place this weekend. I could easily talk about the egregious snubs that happened recently, but I don’t want to take away from anyone else’s shine. These seven players have worked their asses off over the courses of their careers. Congratulations Class of 2010.
RUSS GRIMM
Guard; 6-3, 273
Career: 1981-1991 Redskins. 11 seasons, 140 games
He ran with the Hogs on the famed Washington Redskin offensive line and started as rookie. I mean, when you play in four Super Bowls, play in four straight Pro Bowls and your named to the 1980s all-decade team then hell yeah, you’re a Hall of Famer.
RICKEY JACKSON
Linebacker; 6-2, 243
Career: 1981-1993 Saints, 1994-95 49ers. 15 seasons, 227 games
He was what Dominique Wilkins or Clyde Drexler was to Michael Jordan’s career when you look at him and Lawrence Taylor. Both were ferocious game changing pass rushers. No disrespect to the great LT, but switch up the teams and I think Rickey Jackson has just as much success for the Giants. Six Pro Bowls and Four First-team All-Pro selections.
DICK LeBEAU
Cornerback; 6-1, 185
Career: 1959-1972 Detroit Lions. 14 seasons, 185 games
Took you long enough writers! I hope to one day be a Hall of Fame voter, but even if I work my ass off will I ever truly deserve it having never played a down in the NFL? Why don’t the players vote on who should be in the Hall of Fame? That’s for another day, I guess. They finally got it right with Dick LeBEAU and that’s all that matters. Three straight Pro Bowls and 62 picks sounds like a damn good career to me.
FLOYD LITTLE
Running back; 5-10, 196
Career: 1967-1975 Broncos. 9 seasons, 117 games
A triple OG Orange Crush member. An all-purpose back in the truest sense with more than 12k all-purpose yards and 54tds.
JOHN RANDLE
Defensive tackle; 6-1, 278
Career: 1990-2000 Vikings, 2001-03 Seahawks. 14 seasons, 219 games
The face paint alone should get him into the Hall of Fame. Seven Pro Bowls and six first-team All-Pro selections. Led the league in sacks as a DT in 1997 with 15.5. You think DTs just clog up the line to free up the LBs, not this DT, he racked up 137.5 sacks in his career. Amazing.
JERRY RICE
Wide receiver; 6-2, 200
Career: 1985-2000 49ers, 2001-04 Raiders, 2004 Seahawks. 20 seasons, 303 games.
I could list the millions and millions of accolades, but isn’t being the greatest of receiver of all-time, possibly the greatest football player of all-time. Isn’t that enough? I think so.
EMMITT SMITH
Running back; 5-9, 207
Career: 1990-2002 Cowboys, 2003-04 Cardinals. … 15 seasons, 226 games.
Say what you want too about how good his offensive line was. He saw the holes before they were open and still out ran DBs who were supposed to be faster and quicker than him once he got to the open field. No one else to ever play the game had better vision and decision making as a runner. 4x rushing champion, 3x Super Bowl champion, and the NFL’s all-time rushing leader with 18,355 yards.
