World Basketball Festival RecapAugust 17, 2010
The first annual Nike World Basketball Festival was a success. The four day event gave you everything you wanted from a history perspective, excitement, fun, surprises, and great basketball.

My favorite part was the look on the kids faces during the Chainlink skills session when they were being helped by none other than Kobe Bryant. Seeing Michael Jordan in person for the first time wasn’t bad either. The Brooklyn vs. Bronx game at Rucker Park was extremely competitive and the MCs were hilarious. Brazil and Puerto Rico didn’t give the fans much of a show during their game at Rucker Park. Puerto Rican point guard and Miami Heat guard, Carlos Arroyo, realized that the fans wanted a show and then he turned it up a notch and put on a show for the crowd. The showcase on Thursday at Radio City Music Hall was amazing. The inter-squad scrimmage between the USA was entertaining to watch and even went into overtime. The coolest thing I’ve ever seen was when both teams were tied at the end of regulation. I figured they were going to go into overtime. I was a bit annoyed, because I was tired and ready to see Jay-Z. The people at Nike were on their toes with this one, because they had a sudden death overtime. I’ve never seen it before in basketball. Jay-Z did what Jay-Z does and put on a great show. The conclusion of the festival was on Sunday when the USA spanked France in the first game at Madison Square Garden and the crowd loved the game between China and Puerto Rico, it was truly a college atmosphere during that game.
Like I said, overall the event was a success. So many things were going on such as Niketown appearances by Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, etc. The Nike Ball Room, Make Something Happen, and many more things for fans to take part in. I’m hopeful that this event happens next year. A truly dream come true would be for a World Football Festival in the Spring, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon, but its nice to imagine.
