In 2007, Adrian Peterson arrived on the scene and took the NFL by storm. In 2008, Chris Johnson hit the scene and took the NFL storm with no thunder, just pure lighting. You know those heat lighting flashes that flicker really quick and you don’t know where they are coming from.
Well in 2009, the question was who is the better back? AD or CJ? Well…AD had a good year overshadowed by his BP oil leak in his hands causing him to fumble the ball more than any other back in the past 3 years. CJ ran for 2,006 yards thus changing his nickname from “Every Coach’s Dream” to “CJ2K”. The consensus chose Chris Johnson. Of course Chris Johnson chose Chris Johnson. Over the Summer, he was quoted on several media outlets that it wasn’t even a question that he was the better back.
We’ll yesterday Adrian Peterson chimed in on the discussion with this…
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson joined The Dan Patrick Show yesterday, and Peterson addressed the question of whether Peterson or Titans running back Chris Johnson is the better player.
“Are you better than Chris?” Patrick asked.
“Yes,” Peterson said.
“[He's] not faster, stronger, anything,” Peterson explained, via Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “You’ve got to understand you’re talking to a guy . . . that’s just the mentality that I have. I have ultimate respect for the guy and he’s a heck of a player. I remember at one point and time me talking on the phone to Chris Johnson. He was telling me, ‘I’m just a big fan of yours. I like your style.’ Some [of the] advice that I gave him was, ‘I play this game to be the best player ever to play the game. That’s my mentality.’”
And today, CJ2K had this to say,
Asked how he compares himself to Peterson, Johnson said, per Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, “I don’t. I am the best back in the league, he is not. I don’t think it is close. I feel like I am above all the other running backs in the league. I feel like I am above him.”
I love the back and forth banter…Chris Johnson will rush for more yards because Favre will impose his will on the Vikings to throw the ball more than they run it. Look at last night, AD only got 19 carries. Vince Young is not yet an elite QB to carry a team on his own therefore they will feed CJ2K all year long.
Who would I rather have? I’m a scat back fan, I gotta ride with CJ2k. Yeah, yeah, I’m a Sooner graduate, but that’s who I’d rather have. AD is my boy too, I kick it with him frequently. I just know he’s gonna kill me when he reads this though, lol.
