Bewildering BengalsOctober 8, 2010
Thus far, in the 2010 NFL season, parody has appeared to be the recurring theme. Especially in the AFC North! In my mind, this is the division of defense and here lies the biggest and baddest in all of the land (Steelers, Ravens & Bengals). Speaking of the Cincinnati Bengals, the current AFC North division champs, they are a true paradox; the Bengals beat the Ravens who beat the Browns who beat the Bengals. Get all that? =) That translates to the Bengals sitting at 3rd place in that division at 2-2 behind the Ravens and Steelers at 3-1.
I won’t play the blame game because eleven men take the field, but the Bengals will live or die by the the right arm of Carson Palmer. If that first overall pick out of USC (University of Spoiled Children compliments to Warren Sapp of The U) plays as he did pre-knee injury, Cincinnati might have a prolific offense to compliment a stout defense.
Seeing as three of the Bengals first four games were on the road (and they play the Buccaneers this week at home), I’ll dish out a little slack because there’s plenty of time to “right the ship” and make a run for the title.
As for Batman & Robin; when Carson throws for 300+ (which he’s done twice in 2010) one of the two star wideouts will have success. Robin/Ochocinco had a solid day breaking 150 receiving in the first game. Then Batman/TO made history being the oldest player to break 200 receiving in the second. Both of whom, are averaging about 6 receptions per game, so I would say a favorite target has yet to be determined, but I think Terrell has taken Chad’s spot. It will be interesting to see if these colossal ego’s can gel and also be satisfied with their roles on the team. Let’s not forget about Cedric Benson who has yet to rush for 100 yards this season.
Will Cincinnati best Baltimore and Pittsburgh (who just got Big Ben back) to win the AFC North and prove history wrong by making the playoffs in back to back seasons? Only time will tell…
