BCS ThoughtsNovember 11, 2010

Basic RGB

So here we are in November and we have four teams remaining who are undefeated. Two of them are from automatic qualifiers while the other two are from non-automatic qualifiers. Yes, they are the same teams who have been pretty much dominating all season and nothing much has changed with: 1.) Oregon 2.) Auburn 3.) TCU 4.) Boise State.

After TCU beat a vastly OVERRATED Utah, now they are in the driver’s seat unless the football gods decide to punish Oregon or Auburn with a loss. What I don’t understand is how you could put Boise State under TCU?! Boise has pretty much brought everyone back and they did beat the same TCU & Oregon team last season (I know it has no relevance). I’m FAR from being a pro-Boise but let’s give the former #2 team some credit. I prefer for neither team to be in the BCS Title game unless someone else loses.

As we all know, Bama lost this weekend which “should” kill any chance for them to get back into the picture. With that being said I do not think that any one-loss team should jump over Boise or TCU. There has been talk that LSU/Stanford/Wisconsin/Nebraska (one of them) could somehow jump over Boise which would be a travesty. LSU and Stanford will not win their conference for one because they both need Auburn and Oregon to lose twice. In Nebraska case they lost to a 4-5 Texas team. Wisconsin is tied right now with two other teams in the conference. So I say we cannot punish Boise for beating the potential ACC champ Va. Tech, a decent Oregon State team, and destroying all the competition (so far, lookout for the Colin & the Wolfpack). At the end of the day I want to see the two best teams play for the championship, whether it be Navy and New Mexico State.

Speaking of the one-loss teams, I feel that Stanford is the better team. It is funny because the computers feel that LSU is the better team. What is more funny than both of those statement is that in the other polls, Wisconsin is rated the highest. That is why the best thing that could happen (and I’m sure everyone is praying) is for Auburn and Oregon to go undefeated so there will be no confusion on whether to put a one-loss team or even two loss team (Bama) in the championship. So if everything goes as planed the BCS will dodge another bullet for a mid-major playing for the championship, at least for this year. I just hope that if they don’t play for the title that both teams make a BCS Bowl game no matter what one-loss team you are comparing them to. The one thing that should be changed is that no matter the conference but the top 10 teams in the BCS should play in the BCS Bowls. Look at the Big East so far, nobody is even bowl eligible right now (even Cincy has a chance to win it). We aren’t even going to get into the inconsistent play of the ACC. But that is another topic for another day, I am almost positive (knocks on wood) that we all will see the prolific offense of Oregon go against Cam Newton & Company.
