The Curious Case of Mike LeachDecember 18, 2010

The Mfkin Pirate is alive and well in college football. No irony in the fact that Mike Leach lives in Key West, Florida either. The controversial Leach, who has been under much scrutiny in the last year is fast becoming a hot commodity in the “winning trumps all world of college football”. Donald Trump is a good friend of the Pirate, and has openly stated he is in full support of the Leach. Miami A.D., Donna Shalala got a personal letter from Trump, and The Donald also took out a full page ad in the Palm Beach Post advocating for Leach to get the Miami job.
While I thought Leach would be perfect for U, he of courese did not get the job. The “Air Raid” offense paired with elite south Florida talent would be an amazing combination. However, the rumor mill surrounding Leach has not stopped. He has been connected with the head coaching jobs at Maryland (pending the firing of Ralph Freidgen) and offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State. Leach may be a controversial hire, but there is no doubt that he will light a fire under any program that needs a boost, which is why he would be a good fit at Maryland and would have been a great fit at Miami.
The thought process at Oklahoma State is that former OC Dana Holgorsen is an understudy of Hal Humme and Mike Leach. Holgorsen honed a more run based version of the Air Raid while at Houston and OSU and the results were clear this offense puts up huge numbers. Who better to continue the success of this system than the man who taught the system to Holgorsen? Truth be told, Leach may become a PR nightmare but if he keeps his nose clean there is no doubt in my mind that he will have a top tier coaching job in two years at the most.
NBC has already reported that Leach is very interested in the O.C. position at Oklahoma State. It will be interesting to see who pulls the trigger and hires the Pirate, but best be assured whomever that is will benefit greatly. Leach is going to put up monster numbers even if he is at an all girls school much less any FBS school. Sleep on Mike if you want, but you cant deny talent in any situation. Look at what Mike Vick has done with a second opportunity. Don’t be surprised if he is lighting up college football like he always has in the very near future.
PS – The Donald and I will take on any haters that think differently in a tag team ladder match at Madison Square Garden.
Deuces,
Mini-Pirate Clayborne
