Is Matt Ryan the next Aaron Rodgers?April 12, 2011

Aaron Rodgers was anointed last season as the as the man to erase Brett Favre’s legend. I was on that train. I felt good about it. I was challenged by everyone. It was also brought to my attention that Tom Brady who had an “off” 2009 season had better numbers than Rodgers ’09 season. The same Rodgers’ 2009 season that ended in the regular season with the Packers not making the playoffs. Teh same ’09 season that led to Rodgers being anointed prior to the 2010 season. Nevertheless, I wasn’t getting off the train.

2010 didn’t start off so hot for the Packers, and they suffered a ton of injuries. We all know how the story ended though with Aaron Rodgers becoming a Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP. Oh yeah, I never got off the train. So I wonder….is Matt Ryan next?

In two seasons as a starter, Ryan has yet to win a playoff game. Just like Rodgers in his previous two seasons as a starter. Ryan is a little further along on the curve, having led his team to the playoffs in his first two seasons, opposed to Rodgers only doing it in one. Ryan also has a better supporting cast and great defense.

Ryan will have to do what Rodgers did. Win. However you’ve got to do it, just do it. For the detractors of Rodgers who give the lame excuse that the ball wasn’t in his hands at the end of crucial games such as the Wildcard game in Philadelphia or even in the NFC Championship game against the Bears in Chicago. Sure, the ball may have not been in Rodgers’ hands in the final possession but they were in his hands in all the previous possessions which led to Green Bay being in the lead in those final moments.

It may be unfair, but the expectations for Ryan are higher than Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg in really close closed quarters. Either way, Ryan is expected to win, and win soon. At least win a playoff game. Maybe he can get on a roll like Rodgers did at the end of the season and bring the Falcons their first ever Super Bowl.

That’s all I got,

Ricky Writer
