New Nike Arizona State and Washington State uniformsApril 14, 2011

Arizona State University and Washington State released wholesale jersey changes this week. The football jerseys will get specific attention here but it may be a new trend where colleges and universities change every single jersey on campus as ASU and WSU have done this week. Furthermore, there are rumblings out of Oklahoma State that they will be the GQ squad out of the Midwest. As soon as 6Magazine gets some hard evidence on this we will relay it to you. Here is a look as some real nice work by both universities.
On Tuesday, Arizona State unveiled a new logo getting rid of the traditional “Sparky” Sun Devil. The new logo is a revamped “pitchfork” or trident with a high tech handle. I love the new jerseys. I think that teams not locked into traditional jerseys like Penn State, Alabama, Michigan, Texas and Oklahoma should wear a look that is forward. It seems that everybody is taking cues from what Oregon has done with football fashion and I like it. I cant wait to see the new threads in action in the new Pac-12 next year.
Washington State also announced this week that they too have switched up their aesthetic.
The big addition is an all-grey alternate scheme as well as a grey helmet with the traditional Washington State logo. I am not crazy about WSU’s new jerseys, but I will wait until I see them in action before I pass final judgment. The asterix with that is because WSU needs to pick it up on the gridiron. They are not on TV all to much because, lets face it ….. they have sucked for the last few years. No matter how clean your jerseys look, if you’re not on TV to see them it’s pointless. Also, Nike may not want to spend money for new jerseys on new teams much longer.
More schools specifically, Iowa, with the ugliest uniforms in the history of time need to take the lead of the Oregon, Miami, Virginia Tech and other forward thinking schools of the world, because I hate their look. What makes it really sad is that they have one of the best color combination around and annually cloak the team in BS. Enough on Iowa, I look forward to seeing more of this in college football because in the words of Deion Sanders “If you look good, you feel good, If you feel good, you play good, and If you play good they pay good”
