Hip-Hop depends upon cool like no other genre before it. While there’s always been a place in rap for the clown prince who reaches audiences through self-deprecation and funny tales but the most prevalent archetype of a rapper is one that resembles The Fonz. With no further ado here’s a list of the 10 coolest rappers in no particular order except for number one.

10. Killer Mike – You know that guy in school who got straight A’s and still had time to knock cats out at the flagpole after school? Yeah that’s pretty much Killer Mike.

9. Big Sean – Often overlooked in his early G.O.O.D. Music tenure Sean had the opportunity to play the cut and not get as egotistical as some of his colleagues. With his current rise in profile dude has kept his cool and comes across as humble even while bragging about taking your chick.

8. Too Short – Old school! Too Short’s cool has been translated across generations literally, my parents were listening to Too Short in high school. The guy has aged without ever coming across as out of touch or trying to keep up with the youngsters. Now he’s like the old head who talks you through every situation because he’s already done it.

7. Devin The Dude – One of the aforementioned rappers who uses self deprecation and humor. Devin makes the list because as the subject of his own punchlines, he makes his losses even sound like wins. What’s cooler then someone who does everything you do except with some fire and a constant smile?

6. Lil Wayne – He just doesn’t give a fuck and that’s always cool. I can’t think of too many other rappers who would get a lip ring and not even speak on it, much less not have anyone else speak on it. Wayne gets one and everyone shrugs, that’s just Weezy being Weezy.

5. Yelawolf - He’d fit in anywhere except in high society. You have to appreciate a dude who can go from the trailer to the hood. Besides, I imagine a night partying with Yelawolf would leave you with one hell of a hangover.

4. Currensy – Who keeps it cooler then the Jets? Smoking weed and breaking hearts, Currensy is living the life that makes you want to quit your day job and pick up a pen and pad. (Re-think that though)

3. Wiz Khalifa – see above, replace Jets with Taylor Gang

2. Snoop Dogg – From the flow, to the hair, to his love for greenery when America thinks of cool ass rappers, they think of Snoop. It’s what has allowed him to go from the hood to Hollywood and back.

1. Big Boi – Cooler then a polar bear toenails Big Boi is the coolest rapper alive. He’s smart enough to kick knowledge, but not too smart to just play some funky shxt. I don’t even remember the name of Big Boi’s character in ATL cause it was basically Big Boi if he sold drugs and even with the dope dealing and cousin beating, he was still the most likable character in the movie.
