AFC South PredictionsJuly 28, 2011
The AFC South has the potential to be one of the more interesting divisions in the entire NFL. The AFC South has a perennial contender with the Colts. They have a team who has played at a high level for what seems like decades in the Tennessee Titans. They also have a team that can’t seem to get over the hump in the Houston Texans. Oh, and then there is the Jacksonville Jaguars. The city doesn’t really care about their team and they are sort of mired in mediocrity.
Tennessee has some serious issues to overcome before the start of the 2011 season. Tennessee has won the Matt Hasselbeck sweepstakes and is excited about having a grizzled veteran to help show the young bull (Jake Locker) how it’s done. I don’t love Hasselbeck as a QB, but I have to admit he is better than starting a rookie at QB in the NFL. Locker can sit for a year or maybe two and learn under a proven veteran. I mean, he should ready to take over when Hasselbeck turns 50 here in a couple years. I swear the guy is older than Vinny Testaverde. The Titans secured issue number one, getting a starting QB. Now they need to pay Chris Johnson, so one of the best RBs in the league isn’t upset with his contract anymore. I mean c’mon, pay the guy! He has been playing for pretty much nothing as far as NFL players are concerned, for the duration of his career. He is starting to be more vocal about his displeasure with the contract situation and I really can’t blame the guy. He can pretty much fall out of bed and go for 1,500 yards, plus I think he could have a chance if the Usain Bolt race ever actually happens.
Jacksonville is sort of in limbo this coming year. Blaine Gabbert is a project in my mind. The guy had one solid year at Mizzou and everyone fell in love with his measurables and arm strength. Just so everyone knows you don’t win football games with bench press reps, 40 times, and passing distance. You win with decision making, ball control, and clutch performance. I like the upside of Gabbert but really that is all he has, upside. He played in a spread, “pick and stick”, offense at Mizzou and will have a pretty strong learning curve coming into the NFL. The benefit for the Jags is that they have a savy vet and returning starter in David Garrard. The best thing for Gabbert would be to sit behind Garrard for two seasons and then attempt to take over the starting position in 2013. The Jags can lean on their awesome running game with MJD leading the attack. Garrard threw 15 picks last year so if he can manage the game a little bit better this season and the defense proves that they can stop someone (the D was abysmal in 2010) they might have a shot at scaring some people, but not likely.
The Colts are one of the best run franchises in the entire NFL. It seems like year in and year out they show up, win 12 games and win a few games in the playoffs. I would love to call them a dynasty but they only have the one Lombardi Trophy in that time frame. It is really hard to believe. Peyton Manning is one of the best, if not THE best, QBs of ALL-TIME and somehow he only has one ring. It just seems like he has had a better career than that. The Colts had an awful year last year and went 10-6. I’m joking of course, but for the Colts ten wins just isn’t good enough. Manning accomplished this with Dallas Clark injured and using the 5th and 6th guy on the WR depth chart. Assuming Manning’s weapons return this season 100% healthy and he doesn’t have any lingering issues from the neck problems, I don’t see any reason why they won’t get back to their 12-4 ways. Manning just finds a way to win games. Take Manning off that team last year and they probably win 4 games. I’m telling you, he is that good.
This is the year, right? This is the year that the Houston Texans make the playoffs? It seems like the last few years the know it alls in the media world have picked the Texans to be a playoff team, if not a Super Bowl contender. So, is this the year it is actually true? It is sort of like Rex Ryan saying the Jets are going to win the Super Bowl every year, eventually he is going to be right….right? The Texans were beyond bad on defense last season and have brought in Wade Phillips to change the culture on that side of the ball. The Texans are switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defnese. Mario Williams is moving to OLB, yes all 6-6 290 of him. They still don’t have a CB that could cover himself with an umbrella and they have to play Manning twice a year. The offense is fantastic. One of the best in the NFL. Andre Johnson is a Hall of Famer in the waiting and Matt Schaub continues to put up PS3 numbers each year. The offense isn’t the issue. The Texans will be successful if the D can keep anyone from scoring in the last 2 minutes of football games. Period.
The 2011 AFC South Champions will be the Indianapolis Colts. Surprise, surprise.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
Good day, have you possibly asked yourself to publish concerning Nintendo 3DS?
Thank you for the tips. It helped me a lot.
This post is indeed quite interesting. Keep it up! I’ll try here to further the contributions Vervolg.
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
This article really seems to be very interesting. I’ll stop by more often times if doing something new here.
