Nike 7ON: The Opening – Day 1July 7, 2011
The 2011 Nike 7ON tournament got under way yesterday. The theme this year is “The Opening”. Nike has brought in the ESPNU 150 (Top 150 football players in the country) to compete in a Lineman challenge, 7 on 7 competition, and SPARQ National Championships.
I was here last year and had the time of my life. I’m a Swoosh Boy ’til I die and to get the campus is amazing. I thought I’d be a little “been there done that” but it’s still the same. To be able to set foot on the Nike campus is amazing. Okay enough of that, onto the athletes.
The 2011 SPARQ national championships were held last night. Landon Collins out of Geismar, LA took home the championship. Collins is the #4 ranked free safety in by ESPNU 150. He currently has offers on the table from Alabama, Auburn, LSU, USC, Florida, and many more. Collins shattered the previous SPARQ championship record. The top 4 players went above and beyond what’s ever been done at SPARQ. So now they are going to have to recalibrate their system of how the scores are calculated, because they didn’t think that scores this high were even possible. These groundbreaking scores are a testament to the work ethic of the athletes that set them apart, but also to SPARQ’s affect after a few short years. Football being a year round sport is here to stay and results like these out of 16-17 and year old athletes is proof of that. Translation…it’s some real ass athletes out here.
