5 NFL Teams that Should Draft Terrelle PryorAugust 19, 2011
Now that Terrelle Pryor has been made eligible for the NFL Supplemental Draft what team should pick him? Remember, whatever round of the NFL Supplemental Draft Pryor is selected, that team will lose that rounds pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
I don’t expect Pryor to play this year, in fact, I don’t want him to play this year because he will not be ready. He’s already going to be missing the first five weeks of the season including practice because of Roger Goodell “upholding” Pryor’s five game NCAA suspension.
For the 2012 season, Pryor should be ready to go. It makes no sense for the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins or to draft Pryor when Andrew Luck, Matt Barkley and Landry Jones are all top flight QBs waiting to be drafted. Pryor needs to be at a more stable organization to truly succeed.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Josh Freeman is on his way to being a star, but what if the unforeseeable happens and he’s injured. Pryor has similar size to Freeman and is a bit more mobile. Pryor would be a great band-aid QB for a game or two if Freeman is to miss some games.
4. San Diego Chargers – Philip Rivers isn’t going anywhere. We know that, or do we. Injuries are apart of this game. I don’t like Norv Turner the head coach, but Norv the QB coach/Offensive coordinator is a genius. Pryor will learn a lot if he’s a Charger…that’s if Norv is still there of course.
3. Houston Texans - Matt Schaub puts up great numbers and the Texans still don’t make the playoffs. Not really Schaub’s fault. Matt Leinhart is the current backup, but who knows if he’s resigned in 2012. The Texans have a great running game and Andre Johnson which makes life easy for a young QB.
2. New York Giants – It’s a place for Pryor to get his feet wet in the 2012 Preseason. He’s not going to supplant Eli Manning as the starter, but why not bring him in as a 7th round supplemental draft pick and see if the kid can play.
1. Pittsburgh Steelers - Pryor is from Jeanette, PA which is 45 minutes outside of Pittsburgh. The Steelers organization is hands down the best organization in football. They went 3-1 with backup QBs during Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension last season. Mike Tomlin and the Steelers organization is the perfect team to groom Pryor in the beginning of his NFL career.
