Don’t Cry For J.ColeAugust 12, 2011
With the hype of “Watch The Throne” at a fevered pitch with Monday nights album drop and the release of the official video for “Otis” last night. People began wondering, where’s J.Cole? With no verse on Watch The Throne and Aziz Ansari getting some screen time next to the SuperBach (Trademark Pending) in the “Otis” video it has seemed as if Coley Cole is watching with the rest of us. This sentiment was further inflamed with the news that J.Cole is still waiting on his obligatory Jay-Z verse for his debut album. Fans are noticeably upset that the underdog isn’t getting some push from his towering head honcho.
I’m here to say don’t fret my pets. While J.Cole could have used a cameo in the MTV debuting video it wouldn’t have done much for his market saturation and one verse isn’t going to propel him to platinum status. J.Cole is in a really good place. He’s signed to a major label and has more buzz than 98% of the rappers out. He has a loyal dedicated fanbase who care enough to get upset when he doesn’t get a Jay verse. J.Cole is going to be alright. While he may not do Kanye numbers I’m confident that his album will go Gold, which is the new platinum, and his debut album will kick off his career in the right way.
