Don’t do it….Don’t you dare do it Philadelphia Eagles front office. Why would you trade Asante Samuel? Is Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie better than Asante? Any sane person knows the answer to that question. Look at the numbers, in 11 games, Samuel picked off 7 passes, that ratio is about as efficient as Peyton Manning is at QB.

Yes the eagles could use a right tackle, middle linebacker, and free safety but who’s available that’s worth the same value Samuel offers? I suggested on Friday that the Eagles let Asante play the role Charles Woodson plays in Green Bay. Then several Eagles fans ripped me a new one and scoffed at my idea. Whether it’s Nnamdi Asomugha or Samuel one of them will be in the slot. Samuel is a willing tackler and will be able to blitz and tackle a freaking quarterback at least. I’d rather have Nnamdi on the outside playing man to man and DRC doing the same. Another option is to have Nnamdi in the slot playing the Woodson role, and having DRC and Samuel toggle between zone and man coverage. The last option is to have Asante Samuel play safety. Now, I don’t like this idea, but it’s an option. Asante is not a great tackler and I could see him giving up a ton of plays in the running game or tackling a receiver in the open field.

Asante came to camp yesterday and he wasn’t the happiest person in the world. Here are some quotes from Samuel,

“If they’re tired of my big-playmaking ability, maybe they’ll ship me off.”

Asked whether he wants to remain an Eagle, Samuel said: “I want to be where I’m wanted. If I’m wanted here, [fine]. If I’m not appreciated here, life goes on. I move on.”

Does he feel wanted here?

“It’s probably 50-50, you know?” Samuel said. “So we’ll see how it goes.”

The Eagles should only trade Asante if they can get a right tackle, free safety or middle linebacker that will make as many big plays as Asante.
