Maryland Terrapins new football jerseysAugust 23, 2011

Maryland unveiled their new football jerseys by Under Armour yesterday. I like them a lot especially the helmet which combines a super traditional look with a modern presentation. I am a huge fan of Maryland’s yellow color (see their all yellow alternate basketball jerseys) and I hope they use them often.
One interesting aspect to the new unis is that they make heavy use of a pattern called “Terraprint”, that turtle-shell overlay that’s featured on the Maryland website, in the Maryland basketball jerseys, and on the white helmets. Under Armour claims it’s taken from a real Diamondback Terrapin. I think what is more interesting than Maryland’s new myriad of jersey combinations is what seems be an nice arms race between the Oregon Ducks and the Maryland Terrapins heating up. Of course, the two leading brands in college football and the benefiting institutions, Nike and Under Armour slug it out .
Nike and Phil Knight vs Under Armour and Kevin Plank, who’s going to win? This is the East coast/West coast beef I want to see play out in real life. I am a big fan of the new “Wardrobe Jersey” movement and if this is any indication, I think that we have not seen anything yet. Look for the Nike vs Under Armour rilvary to become one of the best in the country in the years to come.
