What happens to the Big 12?August 30, 2011
As I blogged on Saturday, Texas A&M is leaving the Big 12 to go to the SEC. We know why they are leaving, they are tired of Texas getting all of the shine, and feels they will get more love in the SEC. Cool, if you don’t want to be in the Big 12 then just leave. Now A &M is backtracking saying that they didn’t inform the Big 12 that they were leaving. Ok, whatever, either way, we know it’s going to happen sooner or later this year for sure.
The important thing is, what happens to the Big 12 which will now be 9 next year. Should we go back to the Big 8? If so who do we get rid of? Do the remaining 9 teams succeed and split up? Should we add three new teams?
Going back to the Big 8
Baylor and Iowa State are on the chopping blocks. Nostalgist will want to keep Iowa State just for the simple fact that Iowa State was apart of the original Big 8. I say get rid of Iowa State. What are they doing for the conference? Not much. Some might say to get rid of Baylor, but Baylor balls out in baseball and track & field. So you have to keep them and they are coming up in basketball and football as well.
Just get rid of the Big 12 altogether
Texas already has their own network. The school makes gajillons of money. If they really want to they can be independent. Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, and Texas Tech can go to the WAC. Baylor and Missouri can move to the Mountain West conference. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State can move to the Pac-12 or Big Ten. I mean, hell, everyone has to go somewhere right?
Add three new teams
Boise State can ball and that’s not going to change anytime soon. They’ve been waiting to get into big boy football. The Big 12 would definitely make room for the Broncos. TCU is primed and ready to make the leap to the Big 12 conference seeing as to how they just won a BCS bowl last season. We could fuck up everything and steal Arkansas from the SEC. Imagine that….or the final team to pull in could be the Houston Cougars.
Just a few ideas for the Big 12 officials to think about when A & M leaves, because…they are leaving.
