A Disgruntled Cowboys Fan on Tony RomoSeptember 12, 2011

First let me preface this article by saying that I will attempt to write completely unbiased as possible, and completely erase my stance as an avid Cowboy fan (complete lie).
What will it take for Jerry Jones to realize that Tony Romo is not the guy that can lead on of the top franchises in sports history to the promised land? A quick recap of the game: Cowboys up by 14 points in the 4th quarter. Cowboys are in the red zone on the three yard line, Tony Romo panics with no open receivers and scrambles out of the pocket and makes a dash for the end zone. Quick question: aren’t QB’s taught to never dive head first? Ok, mistake number 1. I’ll refrain from talking about the botched snap in the Seahawks game costing in which he was not even supposed to be in the game at that time…
All the Cowboys needed was a field goal to really put the game out of reach. So the Jet’s put together a nice drive and march down the field. Cowboys gain position from the kick-off, can’t put together a drive, and Jets score on another drive. Tie game now, minutes on the clock, and guess who throws an interception on Revis Island. The one, the only, Tony Romo, costing the Cowboys the win in New York for the home opener and blowing a 14 point lead in the 4th. And the icing on the cake? 19 seconds on the clock, and guess who bobbled the snap, granted you needed about 30-35 yards to get into field goal range to tie it up. It’s the key, pivotal points in the game that this guy is absent. He simply does not have what it takes to win games. Great quarterback statistically, but definitely not the guy who you want to bank on for a win.
Yea yea, it’s only one game. I get that. However, Tony Romo has nutted on himself in every key game he has ever played in. State championship game in Wisconsin. Loser. In college, Eastern Illinois (read- not the best competition) was great statistically. Senior year, loses in the playoffs. Go figure… Undrafted, and not impressing anyone in the combine, but gets signed as an undrafted free agent to the Cowboys. With a lack of talent at the quarterback position, in just 3 years, he became the starter. In 6 seasons, he has been to the playoffs 3 times. Please tell me what he has accomplished, I’ll wait……
Watching the game last night I was surrounded by Cowboys fans. A lot of cheers coming from the defensive efforts, and a lot of “ahhhhh’s” in disappointment coming from the offensive side. I leave you with this comment from a guy wearing a Tony Romo jersey, “Romo stresses me out”. Cheers to the next Troy Aikman, but it ain’t Romo…
