Arizona and Oklahoma State preview: Nick Foles vs. Brandon WeedenSeptember 8, 2011
The Arizona Wildcats head to Stillwater, Oklahoma tonight to face the OSU Cowboys in a re-match of last years Alamo Bowl, won by the Pokes 36-10.
Neither defense is much to speak of this year, so this will be an offensive battle. The game features what may be the best QB battle we see this year besides Baylor’s RG3 (Robert Griffin III) vs Oklahoma’s Landry Jones and USC’s Matt Barkley vs Stanford’s Andrew Luck on October 29th. Nick Foles of Arizona vs Branden Weeden for OSU is sure to produce a massive output even if Wildcat WR Juron Criner (unknown illness) is not playing tonight and OSU WR Justin Blackmon is, advantage Cowboys.
Big Nick Foles, all 6’5 240, has NFL prototype size and the numbers to back it up throwing for just over 3,000 yards last year with 20 tds against 10 picks. Branden Weeden is a little smaller at 6’4 215 and a little older at 27 years of age, but brings gaudy numbers from last year throwing for 4,200 yards with 34 tds and only 13 interceptions. Regardless of the numbers both QBs are deadly and have more than enough talent to be playing on Sundays in the future.
Weeden has more weapons than Foles so look for him to have the more impressive game. The Wildcats are young on defense. I wish Arizona safety, Adam Hall, was playing (ACL injury). Prior to injury he was quite possibly the biggest hitter college football had to offer at the saftey position. The Cowboys are out to prove a few points with all this Pac-12 talk amongst the Oklahoma schools they want to go out and bitch slap Arizona right in the mouth to prove they belong with the nation’s elite.
Look for Blackmon and Weeden to put on a clinic and win going away in those pretty uniforms that OSU brought out last week. Oklahoma State 56 Arizona 21. FYI, in case your wondering Foles will be the better pro player. OSU just never seems to put out players worth a damn in the NFL. The jury is still out on Dez Bryant. #BOOMER
