If Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps played for OregonSeptember 27, 2011
This is a what if scenario so I don’t want to hear any shit. I was thinking this weekend, after watching Jeff Demps scintillating purge of jet fuel against the Kentucky Wildcats in the form of an 87 yard touchdown run, that I wished he and Chris Rainey were in an offense that got them in space more.
Charlie Weis has been doing a great job as the offensive coordinator at Florida. Well, at least based against preseason expectations, but I found myself thinking what if Urban Meyer still had these guys? Hell, screw Urban Meyer what if Chip Kelly had these two in that Oregon offense?
I am thinking that the Ducks would score 14 to 21 more points a game than they do now. Now, I will not get ahead of myself. Oregon probably has the second best speed at tailback in the country with Kenjon Barner (all of these times are from high school) 10.73 100m, LaMichael James 10.62 100m and the freshman DeAnthony Thomas aka “The Black Mamba” running a 10.57 in the 100m. However, they don’t hold a candle to Rainey and Demps. Jeff Demps ran 9.96 100 wind aided and 10.01 without wind making him the fastest athlete in the history of high school athletics in America. While officially Chris Rainey has only a 10.73 100m dash, which is slower than any of the Ducks times, his street cred is a strong as Young Jeezy’s. Rumor has it that Rainey outran Demps their freshman year at Florida behind a dorm and he also outran Noel Devine (10.40 HS 100m) in a parking lot while he was still in high school in Lakeland, Florida.
On the field, Demps and Rainey, is the fastest tailback duo ever. What could, for all intensive purposes, the fastest RB duo do on an Oregon team with Darron Thomas? Would they have beaten Auburn last year? Probably, A Heisman for one or both very plausible. I spend my time wallowing in these type of “never ever gonna happen scenarios”, but damn I wish I could see Rainey and Demps put on that Oregon Jersey and run wild for a game or two the result would be magical and more than likely a match made in heaven. FYI, my HS 100m time is MY OWN DAMN BUSINESS, but it’s in the 11′s and I don’t lose any sleep because of it.
