T.O. not being signed to anNFL team is one thing. It’s understandable and expected in my opinion. He’s 37 years old coming off of major knee surgery. But the man held a workout yesterday and no one came. Not one single team sent a scout to see if the 2nd all-time receiving touchdowns leader could still run routes and catch the rock. Not a one???
It’s easy to say he’s burned all of his bridges and no one is messing with him anymore, but it’s possible that teams didn’t send scouts because they didn’t want to show their hand and let other teams know they were interested in Owens. It’s possible. It’s the NFL, hell the CIA wishes they could keep secrets like NFL teams.
If I’m a contending playoff team, I’m not going to tip off my rival one bit. If I’m interested in Owens, I tell his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, ahead of time we’re not going to make it but to send us the tape. I look at his tape, and bring him in for a private workout if I’m interested. While all of this is happening, I tell Owens and Rosenhaus to keep their mouths shut.
I don’t do baseball but I do remember being in Dallas the day after Cliff Lee signed with the Phillies and listening to Dallas sports talk radio. Everyone thought he was going to play for Rangers or the Yankees but NO ONE saw the Phillies coming at all.
I’m telling you don’t be surprised when T.O. signs with a playoff team down the line, but I’m sure you will be.
