Tyrann Mathieu – The Honey BadgerOctober 13, 2011
It’s pretty damn simple. A honey badger is a bad ass. The Guiness Book of Records calls the Honey Badger “the most fearless little animal in all the fucking land”. Yeah, Tyrann Mathieu and college football? Same thing. He’s the most dominant player in all of college football.
I guess I should give a little background for those who have no clue about The Honey Badger. He’s a cornerback, a true sophomore at that. Oh yeah, he’s only 5’9″ 180 pounds. I’ll wait for you to go check his measurables, because you don’t believe what I just typed.
Was he highly recruited? Nope. Only SMU, Southern Miss and LSU wanted the New Orleans native. Playing for the Tigers was a no brainer.
The sophomore is LSU’s career recordholder in forced fumbles with nine after 19 games. He also has 10 takeaways: six fumble recoveries and four interceptions. To call Mattieu a ball hawk is an insult punishable by helmet to no-helmet contact — and guess what, you’re the one with no helmet. With all due respect, I’m sure this kid is a great student and a fine young man, but he’s more than a ballhawk, he’s a damn goon on the field. Twice this season he’s debo’d offensive players by taking the ball away from them and going to score. He recorded a pick last game for his third takeaway in as many consecutive games.
I remember when Dre’ Bly intercepted a pass in every single game his freshman year at North Carolina. I also remember how Ndamukong Suh and Roy Williams dominated college football when they played as well. That’s what Mattheiu reminds me off, Bly, Suh and Williams in a small ass but mean as shit 5’9″ 180 body.
