Can you please educate me why Brandon Weeden shouldn’t win the Heisman Trophy this year? The 28 year old gunslinger owns an impressive 21-2 record in the last two years. While Dez Bryant and now Justin Blackmon have been the offensive stars in Stillwater the last few years Weeden is the guy that makes this offense go. I thought his numbers would drop after offensive coordinator, Dana Holgorsen, left to be the head coach at West Virginia. However, Weeden is on pace to eclipse the 4,000 yard mark in passing this year as he did last year with Holgorsen at the reigns.
Keep in mind the old man is a walk-on who got his job on the heels of Zac Robinson, who at the time was probably the best Cowboys quarterback in the last 20 years. Look at this year’s production: 313 completions in 428 attempts for 3635 yards with a 73.1 completion percentage 31 touchdowns against 9 interceptions. So who’s going to win the Heisman? How can you not give this guy the Heisman at this point? I don’t think Andrew Luck has proven to anybody that he is the most valuable player in the country especially after laying a goose egg last week against Oregon AT HOME!! This is a strange year for the Heisman as no individual player has taken command of the race as in years past.
The key here is if OSU can run the table this Friday against Iowa State and beat Oklahoma then I think there is not a player in the country that deserves the award more than Weeden. It will be interesting to see how this plays out but don’t act surprised if Weeden’s name get called in New York later on this winter.
