The Oklahoma Sooners have a chance to make it to the national title game this year. Yet, it is missing one of the key cogs to its offensive machine Ryan Broyles. Broyles recently tore his ACL ligament and is done for the remainder of the season. Oklahoma still has some major hurdles left this year, namley in-state rival Oklahoma State. I think the prognosis for the Oklahoma attack remains the same, put up huge numbers on offense. While the loss of Broyles is a major blow for OU, I think that it may make the Oklahoma offense harder to stop. Broyles was the focal point of the Oklahoma offense and teams had to prepare to stop him as well as Kenny Stills.
I honestly believe that Stills and Broyles are very similar players and now with Broyles injured his replacement Dejaun Miller adds some diversity to the offense. Miller’s large 6’5″ frame gives Landry Jones a big posession reciever option along the shorter more fleet footed Stills. This concept is very similar to Roy Finch stepping in for Dominique Whaley who has also been lost for the remainder of the season. Whaley is a great story and a great power back for Oklahoma, but Finch adds an element of explosion and speed that was not present in the Oklahoma running game earlier this year.
Whaley and Broyles will be missed but thier replacements are more than capable and add to the diversity of the Oklahoma offense that may give them the potency to beat the tougher defenses that possibly lay in wait in the national championship hunt. What Miller and Finch bring to the table may just be what it takes for Oklahoma to get over the hump against an Oregon, LSU or Alabama.
