The tale of two Matt’sNovember 15, 2011
Matt Schaub wasn’t highly touted coming out of high school. He was good in college not great. Drafted in the third round of the 2004 NFL draft. He sat behind Michael Vick for three seasons before being traded to the Houston Texans to be their starting quarterback.
Matt Leinhart was an all world recruit coming out of high school. Matt Leinhart was great in college and won the Heisman Trophy. Matt Leinhart was drafted 10th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft. Matt Leinhart was given the keys to the Arizona Cardinals offense twice and wrecked both times.
Leinhart faded to black in 2010 after he was cut by the Cardinals. He signed to the Houston Texans and has been collecting a clipboard check as a backup to Matt Schaub. Now Schaub is out indefinitley with a Lisfranc fracture.
The Houston Texans who are top the AFC with a 7-3 record much of it without superstar receiver Andre Johnson who has missed 6 games with a hamstring injury. The Texans have been balling because an elite running game and an easy schedule.
The Texans have a bye this week so that gives Leinhart a week to get it fully together. The rest of the season is as follows at Jacksonville, home for Atlanta, at Cincy, home for Carolina, at Indy, and home for Tennessee. This is a very easy schedule for Leinhart and if he can go .500 at 10-6 and most likely atop the AFC South.
