I don’t think that there is a program in the country that either commands the respect of fans or alternatively is hated more than Boise State. I myself in all honesty hate BSU for a number of reasons. However, I do respect them and this is what led me to analyze why they have made the impact that they have in the last 10 years on college football.
Boise State raids the state of California every year for players, because we all know that Idaho is probably the most barren recruiting ground in the country. Boise has made a living on getting a few kids that can play anywhere in the country and whole lot of kids that bust their ass and make names for themselves once they get on that, now famous, blue turf. I think that the bigger issue is that because the Broncos are a the biggest fish in a rain puddle that is the Mountain West or in previous years the WAC. There is no way to really see how they would survive in a power conference.
I don’t blame them for scheduling a few high profile games early in the year against power conferences like the ACC and the SEC and then hoping the chips fall right for them to get to the national title game. Boise State’s only viable option is to be the perpetual fly in the ointment. I respect the formula and it has failed at the hands of missed field goals the last two years. Yet, Boise has whooped too much ass recently to believe they are going anywhere in the near future. The setup is to easy for the Broncos so get used to them for better or worse being apart of the national equation each year because its simple math. Now, if only they could find that WR tree that Titus Young and Austin Pettis fell from.
