Donovan is DelusionalDecember 9, 2011
It’s been a week since Donovan McNabb was released and NOT claimed off waivers. Technically, he asked for his release from the Minnesota Vikings. I was thinking in my head when I heard the news, why would he ask to be released? Not happy with the team? Something outside of football? Wants to retire?
McNabb gave ESPN an interview last week and said that he wanted to be released so another team could pick him up. The Bears, Chiefs, and Texans all needed quarterbacks. So wait….Donovan actually thought someone would pick him up? He was terrible in Minnesota, there is no other way to describe it. We let his poor play in Washington slide because Washington hasn’t been relevant in years. But this season, we all saw Donovan in plain sight try to anchor the Vikings’ ship in Lake Terrible. His performance this year confirmed that what we saw in Washington last year was reality.
Two years ago, McNabb led the Eagles to a 11-5 record and into the playoffs. How the hell did he fall from grace so fast? I don’t know the answers to that, but I do know that he’s delusional. McNabb, just like many elite athletes is delusional. It’s definitely a requirement. Some call it delusional others call it confidence, whatever you call it they have it and it never goes away even after their skills do.
Every athlete faces the harsh reality when his mind and body don’t get along like they once did. In his younger days, Donovan McNabb’s mind would tell his body to throw a bad pass between three defenders and it would be completed for a first down. Why would his mind tell his body this? His mind new Donovan had the arm to get it done. The mind of the athlete is always the last to get the memo that the body is done and can no longer perform at optimum levels that it once did.
The fact that Donovan still thinks he can play for a playoff contender and help lead them to victory proves my point that his mind and body aren’t getting along very well right now.
Clearly Donovan’s delusional or confident…you pick the adjective.
