EMASCULATING THE NFL: JAMES HARRISON VILLAINIZEDDecember 14, 2011
The NFL looks more and more like the WNBA, seemingly by the day. Roger Goodell has done more for the feminist movement than he has ever done for player safety as commissioner of the NFL. I believe that keeping players safe is paramount. However, from the day you put on a helmet in youth league football you understand there is a high risk of injury. No one wants to see anybody hurt, but it is a reality of the game. James Harrison is an alpha male at linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I feel like the NFL is targeting him every opportunity they get.
This is a good clean hit nothing more nothing less.
Ten years ago Harrison would simply be “The Most Feared Hitter In The League” plain and simple. In our present time, he is a RENEGADE devout of moral character and sensitivity for opposing quarterbacks. Harrison has paid multiple fines, and I really think it is time to lay off him. I really can’t fathom a man so ruthless that we would say “I don’t care fine me” week in and week out. It is not a financially sound decision to make in any point of an NFL career. Harrison is a true warrior A REAL LINEBACKER and is being punished for that. Roger Goodell needs to check his TAMPON and let football players be football players. I understand protecting a quarterback in the pocket, but outside of that we need to let players play. It is sad but, it is going to take a defensive player getting severely injured trying to avoid getting fined before we realize this. Furthermore, running backs who use their head as a weapon should be penalized as well if this is the NFL we live in.
I think Goodell, in an effort to make the game more exciting and productive from an offensive standpoint, has essentially castrated real defensive play in the league. I wish I could see press coverage for an entire play and big hits every week but as things stand, those days are gone. I wish James Harrison the best, because in a way he hasn’t changed who he is or how he plays and I respect that. I wish I could say so much about the current style of play in the NFL.
