6Magazine 2012 NFL Previews: Dallas CowboysAugust 1, 2012

In the month of August, 6Magazine will preview all 32 NFL teams on their road to the Vince Lombardi Trophy which begins Wednesday, September 3rd when the Cowboys take on the Giants.

Last Season

The Cowboys failed to qualify for the playoffs going 8-8 and getting embarrassed at home as they lost to the New York Giants in their final game. The Boys did find a groove in the middle of the season when rookie running back, DeMarco Murray started to emerge. But as usual…they came in with all the talent in world and didn’t even make the playoffs. SMH.

2012 Offense

Tony Romo is Lebron James. He’s a very good quarterback. People focus on his end of game mishaps, but for the first three quarters he’s money. Last season, he tossed 31 touchdowns and only 10 picks. Expect another Pro Bowl caliber season from Romo. Murray is back and healthy is a threat to take it the distance anytime he touches the ball. Dez Bryant and Miles Austin make for a great WR tandem with Jason Witten manning the middle of the field. The offensive line is young and all under the age of 31.

2012 Defense

The reason for the Cowboys problems last season was the defense plain and simple. They got rid of Wade Phillips and brought in Rob Ryan and it didn’t really work out. You can blame much of that on the players having to learn a new defense in a lockout shortened season. The Cowboys have just as many big names on defense as they do on offense. Demarcus Ware, Bruce Carter, Sean Lee, Dan Connor, Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr, Mike Jenkins, etc.

Rob Ryan has press corners…four of them. In a pass happy offense, the Cowboys defense will be bringing heat and picks back for six.

2012 Outlook

It’s the same old story for the Cowboys. The names are big as always but the play is always underwhelming. There is a lot of heat on Jason Garrett. As a player he was given the keys to a ’67 teal Mustang and did not wreck it, remember his Thanksgiving Day performance against the Packers? We’ll…last season he was given the keys to a 750 BMW and wrecked it. Jerry Jones bought Garrett a new car — an Aston Martin D9 Volante. Will Garrett cruise it to New Orleans or wreck in Baton Rouge? Let’s hope he at least makes it out of Texas.

That’s all I got,
