Colt McCoy Is the Next Drew BreesSeptember 14, 2012
Who wins in Cleveland? Lebron barely did and he still left. I’m not sure how the Indians are doing, but I’m assuming they haven’t been relevant since Albert Belle was playing linebacker between 1st and 2nd base. I do know the Browns have sucked for a while. They haven’t had a winning season since 2007 and haven’t made the playoffs since 2003.
Cleveland is the quarterback carousel. Imagine if Tom Brady was drafted by the Browns instead of the Patriots…..yeah no Captain America for us. I’m not sure if Tim Couch or Brady Quinn were really bad quarterbacks and more less victims that were drafted by a sucky organization.
The Browns still suck. The blame that was placed on Colt McCoy last season has been hurled onto Brandon Weeden this season after one game. Weeden could become a good quarterback, but that remains to be seen, Colt McCoy is a good quarterback and we’ve seen him play well. But how do you expect him to succeed with virtually no weapons.
McCoy is the perfect west coast quarterback, he’s mobile and has a strong enough arm to make all the throws in the NFL. He’s smart, accurate and a winner…just not in Cleveland yet. Most times in football it’s about who you’re drafted to. Alex Smith sucked with the 49ers for several seasons and then Jim Harbaugh comes along and now Smith is a serviceable QB. Is there much difference between Colt McCoy and Alex Smith?
I see a lot of Drew Brees in Colt McCoy. Brees wasn’t great in San Diego…he had a couple of mediocre seasons. The team drafted Philip Rivers to replace him and then Brees started to ball, but not enough because the Chargers chose Rivers over Brees. An early difference in their careers is that the Chargers gave Brees a chance to keep his the starting job, the Browns didn’t give Colt a fair chance to keep his job and they saw Weeden toss four picks against the Eagles last week. Rumors are circulating the McCoy will get his job back this week.
The best thing that will happen to the Colt McCoy is the inevitable, which is being released or traded by the Browns. Someone is going to grab Colt and get a really good quarterback, kinda like the one New Orleans has right now.
That’s all I got,
