When It’s Bigger Than You: Jason WittenSeptember 6, 2012

Love makes you do dumb things. We’ve all done something completely stupid and outside of ourselves in the name of true love.

Jason Witten is clearly in love — with the game he loves and plays for a living. Twenty-three days ago, Jason Witten injured his spleen in a preseason game. Earlier this week, Witten wasn’t expected to play because he hadn’t been cleared by team doctors.

Somehow, someway, Witten who didn’t make the team flight on Tuesday, but magically appeared in town for the game Tuesday night was cleared by a New York doctor to play at the last minute. A spleen is no sprained ankle. This was a huge risk for Witten to take.

I can’t speak for Witten, but as I said earlier when you love something or someone you do truly stupid things. People can judge Witten all they want, but you’ve probably done the same thing at some point at time. Playing in last night’s game meant something to Witten. The same way a mother is working 3 jobs to support her kids, or a stripper is stripping her way through college, or even felons who don’t want to work at Walmart and would rather sell drugs to feed his family. The mother, the stripper, and the dope boy only see one thing, and that’s their loved ones and supporting them no matter what. It’s bigger than them.

Last night, it was bigger than Witten. He was willing risk his health just to be there for his teammates and the game he loves. Judge Witten all you want, but it’s clear that his teammates and the organization is much bigger than him and that he’s willing to do anything for the game he loves.

That’s all I got,
