Who’s Going To Throw More Picks in 2012? Vick or Luck?September 25, 2012

After the first three weeks of the NFL season Michael Vick is on pace to throw 48 interceptions while Andrew Luck is pacing at 24. One of these quarterbacks is looking for a his first Super Bowl title, while the other is trying to carve his own path outside of the shadow of RGIII.

If Vick wants to limit his interceptions and stop his Philadelphia Eagles fans from biting all the way to their cuticles, he has to learn that every play is not a touchdown. Hypothetically, if you start on the 20 yd line, you could throw one 80 yard bomb, or twenty-two 5 yard routes, and achieve the same result. While not as pretty, a touchdown is a touchdown.

Vick has looked really good in the later parts of the games when he does calm down, and his offense coordinator does just that, as my dad would say in dominos, “nick him, don’t cut him.” A few nicks can eventually open a wound wide enough for Brent Celek to seal a defender for 6, or a Vick sneak. Either way, it suits him.

As for Luck, his ‘luck’ may run out soon as he prepares to face the Packers followed by the Jets soon. Those games can eat make or break the young rookie. He was also fortunate the schedule gods were on his side, placing the tough defense of the Texans toward to the end of the season, where by that time he will have a much greater wealth of knowledge and preparation.

All in all, I believe the offensive coordinator of the Eagles and Michael Vick’s aptitude to understand that you cannot home run every at bat will determine who throws more interceptions between the two. So, if were a gambling man, I would probably put my money of Vick only by a margin of 6 or fewer.
