Here are my quick cuts and jukes from the weekend…..

College

Fresno State should have won their New Mexico Bowl game versus Wyoming. In the first OT, they had the ball on their 1-yard line and in four attempts Ryan Matthews, the nation’s leading rusher, they couldn’t convert. The Bulldogs were also unable to stop Wyoming in the final possession of regulation when they converted three 4th down conversions to set up the game tying field goal. I love Coach Hill and Ryan Matthews, but damn fellas!

Rutgers had Central Florida out matched all game long. Coach Greg Schiano’s now taken his Scarlet Knights to five straight bowl games winning four of them. I see you over there trying to start a dynasty Coach Schiano!I told yall Rutgers Freshman QB, Tom Savage, was cold!

Damn, I hate to see Damion Fletcher go out like that in his last game of his great career with a loss. On the other hand, I like this Middle Tennessee State QB, Dwight Dasher, who balled out of control last night. A quick side note, we say Colt McCoy is the perfect name for a Texas quarterback, but Dwight Dasher has to be the perfect name for a running quarteback, imagine this kid running the option for Nebraska back in the ’80s, man! Either way Dasher has his way with the Golden Eagles in the R + L New Orleans Carrier Bowl who had 366 all purpose yards and 4 touchdowns. Middle Tennessee State 42 Southern Mississippi 32.

NFL

The Colts and Jaguars game was a good one. The Jags let is slip bottom line. Hey Indy, I see chinks in your armor, the same chinks I saw against the Patriots.

Umm…”Who Dat”? No really who dat that was playing Saturday, because it sure wasn’t the New Orleans Saints I’ve seen all year. I mean yeah, you were down against the Dolphins and Redskins, but you guys put up points in those games. Jammal Brown was sorely missed as DeMarcus Ware had his way with the Saints, and that sloppy Saints run defense caught up to them as the Boys put up 145 rushing yards on the Saints.

Yeah, Randy Moss had a bounce back game, but the Patriots just don’t look the same man.

What is it with these extra sorry teams playing the most exciting games. The Browns were involved in both of them. This time they went wire to wire with the Chiefs winning, 41-34 in Kansas City. Josh Cribbs dominated the game with two kick off return touchdowns over 100 yards in the same quarter. Let me take that back, those were only two scores, Jerome Harrison, the backup running back set a team record rushing for 286 yards on 34 carries and 3 touchdowns. He broke the record of 238 yards formerly held by the great Jim Brown. Jamaal Charles got off for the Chiefs though with 154 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown.

Jets vs. Falcons….boring. Final score Falcons 10 Jets 7. No it wasn’t a defensive slug out. I appreciate those, nope, this was purely inept offense on both sides.

Texans won…barely over the Rams, 16-13. Andre Johnson is a beast, and I hope he gets outta Houston soon and gets a chance to play for a championship.

Vince Young threw 3 tds for the first time in his career. Chris Johnson ran for pedestrian 104 yards. Umm VY is now 25-12 as a starter. Numbers don’t lie, they just don’t, their like Pinocchio. Oh yah, Texans beat the Dolphins 27-24.

Arizona won….they won ugly. Cards 31 Lions 24.

Denver started out 6-0. They’ve only won 2 of their last 8 games and now stand at 8-6 losing to the Raiders who played 3 QBs yesterday.

The Bengals had an emotional game in San Diego yesterday. I’m proud of OchoCinco for not wearing #15. I wouldn’t have minded if he did, but I know the media would have made a field day out of it. Chad even stated that he wasn’t going to do so because he didn’t want to cause a distraction. Good move Chad, don’t give the media any ammo. But the lost 27-24 to the Chargers. RIP Chris Henry.

Oh my goodness Jay Cutler. Are you serious? 25 picks thrown for the year with only 19 touchdowns for the year. He threw 3 picks yesterday so it’s pretty obvious they didn’t win, actually the lost pretty bad, 31-7 to the Ravens.

Do I have to talk about Tampa Bay beating Seattle 24-7?

San Francisco should have won this game, but they have Mike Singletary coaching. It’s time for him to go. Eagles win 27-13.

Packers vs. Steelers, now that was some good offensive football. 37-36 Steelers, breaking their six game skid. So much for the vaunted running attacks of these historic franchises, both teams only ran the ball 31 times combined. They threw the ball 94 times for 886 yards and 6 touchdowns. Big Ben threw for 503 yards and 3 tds. Damn!

Minnesota Vikings are no longer allowed to play on Sunday night football. Not like they actually played either of the two times they’ve been there anyway. If Steve Smith is like the Olympics. He comes around every four years once he gets a consistent quarterback. It’s not his fault though, imagined if he played for the Colts. Oh well they got the win in their scrimmage against the Vikes 26-7.

Tuesday Morning Cornerback: Week 15

Yo yo, what’s up…..

Here’s the run down on this lovely Tuesday morning of what went down over the weekend….

College

Navy drove Army for the eighth time in a row. Maybe we should call it the Navy Army game until Army wins a game. Let’s make sure we show love for our troops. They lay their lives on the line so that we can play this game and live in a free country.

I would report on the all the FCS and Division II and III playoffs, but I must walk before I can crawl and to act like I have any knowledge on the teams or players would be extremely fraudulent of me.

NFL

Umm, Pittsburgh is tripping. Point blank. I’m trying to figure out what went wrong with the rest of the world. Brady Quinn went 6 for 17 and the Steelers still lost to the Cleveland Browns.

Oh, Falcons, close but no cigar. Drew Brees did it again. Take that back, Jonathan Vilma did it. Great tackle at the end of the game by Vilma. Chris Redman played well in relief of Matt Ryan. That’s two weekends in a row the Saints have come close to losing that undefeated badge their wearing with such pride.

One day the Detroit Lions jokes are going to get old like all the Tiger jokes. Not anytime soon though. 48-3 loss to the Ravens.

You got Charles Woodson stock, I’m buying, I don’t care how much either. He’s Defensive Player of the Year hands down. I don’t wanna hear any Jared Allen or Darren Sharper talk either. I got some Jay Cutler stock and I’m giving that shit away for free. Hell, my garbage man won’t even pick it up. Maybe a vulture will come out the sky and take it off my hands. It’s stock, so if it becomes a commodity again I’ll buy more, but for now, it’s bad for business. Oh yah, the Packers are 9-4, and I don’t think anyone wants to play them in the playoffs.

Peyton Manning threw three picks. Brandon Marshall set an NFL record with 21 catches, surpassing the mark of 20 catches set by Terrell Owens set on December 17, 2000. And the Colts still won, yes, I said WTH because it was a Sunday but I totally understand your WTF.

I’m sticking to my guns when I say Miami is going to make the playoffs. First step, chip at the Jaguar’s lead on the 6th and final AFC spot with a 14-10 win. Bill Parcells is cold!

Do I have to talk about the Buffalo and Kansas City game? Cassell threw 4 picks. Looks like Cassell might be joining Larry Brown and Alvin Harper in the all-time free agent bust signings.

The Vikings are 11-2. Understandable, Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson, Jared Allen, Antione Winfield etc. But AD has only rushed for 100 yards 4x this year. Weird.

Seattle went to the Super Bowl four years ago. The Patriots have stayed consistent. Both teams have the same quarterback, what gives? Please tell me someone. Either way, the Hawks got drove by the Texans 34-7 in case you cared.

Best comment in regards to Randy Moss’ quitting in the game against Panthers this past weekend came from Coach Belichick. Panther’s defensive backs, Chris Gamble and Chris Harris, said Randy Moss quit last weekend and they knew he would. In response, Belichick was quoted as saying, that Randy never quits, plays hard all the time. He also noted that teams prepare for Randy by double and triple teaming him week in and week out. “Only people that don’t think so are these two guys, who still lost the game. Panthers haven’t won that many games.”

Look at this commercial and insert Belichick for Urban Meyer and replace those BCS rings with 3 Super Bowl rings…BITCH!!! lol.

Excuse me while i breathe on my finger nails and buff em out with my shirt. Jets, cornerback, excuse me Pro Bowl cornerback, Darrelle Revis recorded his third straight game with an interception. That is now four picks in three games for Revis. He was out October cover story. Damn, I know how to pick ‘em. Uhhh, Jets 26 Bucs 3. I told the Bucs they pulled the cord on Josh Johnson a little too early, because Josh Freeman isn’t fairing any better.

Chris Johnson for MVP. He has 1,626 yards. His average is 125 yards/gm. If he sticks to his average he’ll get be one yard over two stacks. I don’t want to talk about Dickerson’s record until Week 17, let’s not jinx the man now.

Washington 34 Oakland 13. What? You expected more?

Dallas loses to the Chargers….in December. What? You expected more?

Apparently the Giants and Eagles thought they were mourning for the death of the Arena Football League and decided to score alot of points in their honor forgoing their smash mouth traditionally defensive minded NFC East brand of football. Both teams combined for 83 points and five touchdowns over 60 yards. Eagles got the win 45-38.

Don’t ever bet money on the Cardinals. Last week they destroy the spread and the Vikings. This weekend they allow the spread to be destroyed by the 49ers. I think I found my next star defensive back to feature on a cover story before the “conglomerates” catch on Dashon Goldson. Oh my, let the 49ers get on tv and they wanna act a fool.

Wednesday Football Wonderings….

Yo what’s good. I’m going to run down a list of things that are still on my mind two days after the last week of football was played. Don’t worry next article will be about upcoming games this weekend.

First things is this, please get off of Bill Belichick’s back. He made the call point blank, bottom line. This man has three Super Bowl rings and should have had a fourth. He’s made countless risks before that have worked out just fine. In reality, he got a really bad spot. The only two bad decisions he made was calling a timeout before deciding to go for it on 4th and 2 giving the Colts a chance to get prepared for the play. The second mistake was not blitzing Peyton Manning after they didn’t get the didn’t get the conversion. I’d rather him blitz Manning and get burned early for the TD so they’ll have time to score rather than later with virtually no time left on the clock.

Maurice Jones-Drew’s coach influenced decision to not score the touchdown at the end of the game was a bad decision. They were down. Please stop saying it was a smart decision like Brian Westbrook made a few weeks ago. It was not, the Eagles were winning that game, the Jaguars were not winning. It is too big of a risk. The only reason Belichick gets a pass because he’s won three out of four Super Bowls in one decade.

Bob Stoops to Notre Dame? I don’t see it happening. I really don’t. He’s damn near a legend in Oklahoma. Granted, he’s not being fully appreciated as he once was, but he’s been in this position before in 2005 when they went 8-4. He’ll bounce back, I mean hell, look at all the injuries he’s had to deal with this season.

Now, these Mike Shanahan to the Chicago Bears rumors sound legit. They signed Jay Cutler to way too much money and gave up too much to get him last Summer, so Cutler is not going anywhere. Someone will be punished for all these loses the Bears are suffering. If it’s not the GM then it’s going to be head coach, Lovie Smith. Shanahan makes sense. Cutler played his best football for Shanahan in Denver last season throwing for over 4,500 yards and 25 TDs.

Why does this college football season suck so much? I knew something was up when highly touted true freshman Andre DeBose wasn’t going to play this year for Florida because of a hamstring injury, that was my omen. There are no clear cut stars. Jahvid Best was on his way, but his offensive line stopped blocking for him. Colt McCoy’s thrown too many interceptions. Jevan Snead is not who we thought he was. Tim Tebow has no one to throw the ball too. Jimmy Clausen plays for a Notre Dame team that has no defense, and Sam Bradford was done the first game. Cincinnati is undefeated and Mardy Gilyard is playing his ass off, why is he not getting any love. Yes C.J. Spiller is playing on a mediocre Clemson team, but he is by far the best player in the country and he should get some Heisman love as well. If only TCU or Boise State had a star, or Cincinnati marketing Mardy Gilyard.

LaGarrette Blount was reinstated to Oregon last week. Although he didn’t play, it was nice for his coach Chip Kelly to reinstate Blount. Now my confusion is this, Lane Kiffin boots Michael Edwards and Nu’Keese Richardson off the team for their role in an alleged attempted robbery with a pellet gun. It is similar to the Maurice Clarrett situation a few years back. Kelly didn’t ban Blount from the program and kick him off the team, he rehabilitated him. I wonder how Clarrett would have turned out if he had been given the opportunity to be rehabilitated and not left virtually naked in Columbus by Ohio State. I’m not condoning Clarrett’s actions, but you wonder how he would have turned out to be honest. I wonder what will happen with Richardson and Edwards. Both are only true freshman. Someone in the country will pick these two kids up. Kiffin’s reasons were that it would be hard for him to go into homes on recruiting trips and tell parents that their sons would be safe at Tennessee when he has players on the team robbing people. It is a very true statement from Kiffin, but I wonder what the coach that signs these two kids will say when he visits potential recruits. Do these kids get any slack for it only being a pellet gun? I’m not saying give them any, I’m just wondering because I am not a lawyer. Anyway, I’d love to hear your thoughts on what you think.

Last thing on my mind is the BCS rankings. Are they even necessary. BCS comes out in Week 7. I think we should push it back to Week 9, and start letting the AP and Coaches start voting at week 6. It usually takes about six weeks for a team’s true character to show. We can’t do away with the BCS anytime soon, so why not control the most important thing which is the rankings. Where a team starts in the preseason rankings is the most vital component of the BCS rankings if you ask me. Let’s be honest, say TCU didn’t start out #17 in the preseason polls, and they were not going to be ranked until week 6, I am positive that some voter would rank TCU better than Florida right now. Honestly, the BCS doesn’t screw teams, (please don’t say Texas got screwed by the BCS, Texas got screwed by its own conference three way division tie breaker rules) the voters and polls screw teams. So we might as well do away with the polls until mid-season. Sound good? Great. Thanks for listening.

Monday Morning Cornerback: Week 11

Yo yo, what’s good. Ricky Writer here. These are my quick cuts and jukes over this past weekend of football.

In the newly storied rivalry that is Rutgers and USF, USF got their asses hand to em one time each quarter. You all wanted to annoint USF Frosh QB, B.J. Daniels as the next best thing, and yes, he is good, but he is still a Freshman. If Matt Barkley is struggling in So Cal you can bet Mr. Daniels is as well. The Frosh QB we should be talking about is Rutgers QB, Tom Savage. They boy has 10 tds and 2 picks on the whole year.

If you look at the score of the Cincinnati vs. West Virginia game, you’d say uh-oh Cincy is gonna go down real soon. They barely got by WVU. But it was an off game for the Bearcats who made uncharacteristic mistakes and still found a way to win. Tony Pike will lead the Bearcats the rest of the way. He stepped in and threw 4 passes to knock the rust off and tossed 2 tds. After watching this game, I think Cincy stays undefeated through the regular season.

This is where it gets painful. is it bad if the three brand name undefeated teams bore me and I’m only excited by the off-brand three undefeated teams?

Florida struggled up until the 4th quarter to be South Carolina. Yes the Gamecocks have a great defense, but these are the Florida Gators. Just signs of how much this college football season sucks, but we have to give the Gators some love, that’s 20 victories in a row. I wonder if Steve Spurrier ever regrets leaving Florida? He’d never admit it but I think he does. He could be sitting pretty like A-Rod, and setting himself up to overthrow Joe Paterno with the most victories.

It’s not what’s on the outside that counts, it’s what’s on the inside. Mississippi State wore some cool new black uniforms in hopes of defeating #2 Alabama. No bueno! 31-3 rout at home, not a good look.

Do I really have to talk about Texas drilling Baylor? I mean Robert Griffin is not playing so you know how the game was going to turn out.

Now I get excited…

The TCU vs. Utah game was supposed to be a mini-bowl game for all the MWC marbles. TCU took Utah’s marbles and cookies. LIke I’ve said before no one wants to see that TCU 4-2-5 defense or offense. TCU QB,  Andy Dalton, is lighting up the scoreboard. I”ll be honest, I don’t think Cincy or Boise St. can really hang with the big boys this year, but TCU is foreal.

Yes the Idaho vs. Boise State is actually a rivalry although it hasnt been with the rise of the Broncos and fall of the Vandals. But the coming in the Vandals were 7-3 and bowl eligible. But Boise St. let them know who runs that state in a 63-25 rout to remain undefeated but still on the outside looking in as far as the BCS title game is concerned.

GA Tech puts a smile on my face. Their option attack is unparalleled and it takes me back to the old school Wishbone, Triple Option, Wing-T days when I was a young lad in the 90s. They clinched a spot in the ACC title game by defeating the newly respectable Duke Blue Devils 49-10. GA Tech will likely face Clemson. It should be a good one. Congrats Yellow Jackets.

LSU is not LSU anymore. Yes they have injuries but it’s evident they aren’t as dominant as no one has been in this weak ass college football season. They barely beat LA Tech 24-16.

USC got beat by Stanford. Am I surprised, no. I am surprised that they got drilled at home though, 55-21. Standford coach, Jim Harbaugh, is a serious ball coach, and I expect Michigan to buy out Rich Rodriguez’s contract and bring the ex-Wolverine Harbaugh back to Ann Arbor. The biggest mistake Pete Carroll made was not being able to convince Mark Sanchez to stay but replacing Steve Sarkisian with Jeremy Bates who hasn’t done much in his career other than latch onto Mike Shanahan.

Ohio State is going to the BCS after their victory over Iowa. It’s not that impressive to do anymore when you are the dominant team in the Big Ten. Let’s give them props, and my boy Terrelle Pryor is coming into his own now they they are opening up the playbook to him, as he went 14/17 against the Hawkeyes.

I’m a little confused by the rankings, which has Iowa being dropped two spots to #15 which is fine seeing as to how they lost. But Penn State, which Iowa beat on the road jumped five spots from #17 to #12 and is three spots ahead of a team they lost too?!?! Not to mention another team in which Iowa beat, the Wisconsin Badgers are #14, one slot ahead of the Hawkeyes. This is the stupidity that I find with the polls. I don’t think these writers watch to games to be honest.

Dion Lewis, Heisman? Anyone agree? He has carried the offense on his back to be honest. Notre Dame’s fall as predicted by 6Magazine’s Claude Clayborne is happening before our eyes. Michael Floyd has been back two weeks now for the Irish but I can’t tell because Golden Tate is playing like he’s the number #1 receiver.

Pardon me while I’ve just realized I haven’t been giving you quick cuts and jukes. It’s been more like methodical four and five yard gains down the field. I just passed the 50 yard line, so I’ma get my Barry Sanders on again if you don’t mind.

I don’t know why people continue to hate on Oregon’s uniforms, they are tight every week.

Miami Hurricanes met their maker, Butch Davis this past weekend.

The Houston Cougars are slowly starting to hurt my feelings.

Because of Penn St. and Wisconsin robbing Iowa of ranking spots, I will not mention or bold them in this week’s Monday Morning Cornerback.

C.J. Spiller is the nation’s most exciting and valuable player, therefore he should win the Heisman trophy.

NFL

Maybe Josh McDaniels was right about Jay Cutler…..

Matt Ryan meet the sophomore slump. She’s a cruel daughter of a bitch. Why is Carolina WR, Steve Smith, complaining about offensive involvement when he caught 4 balls for 34 yards and 2tds?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Bengals, Colts, and Patriots but does anyone really want to play the Dolphins in the playoffs? Yes, they are 4-5, but they will be in the playoffs, watch!

Duh, Lions vs. Vikings you know who won, but did you see this. WTH!

Mark Sanchez meet the Rookie Ridicule. It happens, you’re gonna suck in your rookie season unless you’re Ben Roethlisberger or Dan Marino. You’ll bounce back the last half of the season we promise. The Jags are flying under the radar this year, but their defense has been amazing.

Not sure what it is, but the Bengals have the Steelers number and they better not face them in the Wildcard game if they know what is good for them.

I keep saying it. The Saints don’t have a run defense. I don’t care if people were injured or not, when those guys are healthy they still had the same problems. Look at the stats on the Carolina and St. Louis games. But 9-0 is 9-0.

T.O.’s mid-season melt down came right on cue. ESPN AFC East blogger, Tim Graham,  now actually have valid reasons to provoke T.O. Chris Johnson doesn’t have much of an o-line and leads the league in rushing. So why are we giving Adrian Peterson all the MVP considerations?

The Redskins won? Ge the fuck outta here! Man…saying anything would be ruining the moment.

Do I really have to talk about Kansas City vs. Oakland?

Bad Kurt Warner stayed home and Good Kurt Warner came to play. My fantasy team thanks him.

Charles Woodson beat the Dallas Cowboys all by himself.

I think Andy Reid’s welcome in slowly fading.

When you kick Bill Belichick in the balls you normally brake your foot and have to have two or three toes amputated and he will not apologize or pay your medical bills.
